DeltaCarry-On Pet Policy:

Delta permits passengers to bring small pets in the cabin on most flights for a fee of $150 each way (to be collected at check-in). Pets are not permitted on flights to Hawaii. Check Delta’s website for more information on transporting pets to Hawaii or international destinations. Pets permitted in the cabin include dogs, cats, and household birds. Your pet must be small enough to fit comfortably in a pet carrier under the seat in front of you. Pets must be at least eight weeks old. A pet in cabin counts as one piece of carry-on luggage. Passengers traveling with pets must check in at the airline ticket counter. Curbside and self-service check-in is not available. Please allow extra time beyond normal check-in guidelines.

Checked Bagage/Cargo Policy:

Cats, dogs, household birds, guinea pigs, rabbits, and hamsters are accepted as checked baggage. Due to seasonal weather conditions, Delta Airlines does not allow pets to travel as checked baggage from May 15 through September 15. During other periods, Delta will not allow pet travel in cargo if extreme temperatures are anticipated. When the weather permits, pets may travel in a temperature-controlled and pressurized compartment. To ensure your pet’s comfort and safety and your peace of mind, review weather, health, and pet carrier requirements on Delta’s website. Passengers with pets traveling as checked baggage must pay a fee of $275 (each way) on flights for travel within the United States, U.S. Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico and $550 (each way) for travel outside the United States, U.S. Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico. Passengers are permitted a total of two pet carriers as checked baggage on each flight. Visit Delta’s website for more specific restrictions, especially if your flight plans involve multiple airline carriers.

Carrier Guidelines:

For pets traveling in the cabin, pet carriers may be either hard- or soft-sided and must prevent escape of your pet into the cabin. Because the maximum allowed size of pet carriers varies among Delta and its various Connection Carriers, it is important for you to verify the permitted carrier size when making your Delta reservation. Your pet must remain inside the pet carrier while in the airport boarding area, during boarding and deboarding, as well as througout the duration of each flight.

Pet Reservations:

Whether your pet is traveling in the cabin with you or in cargo as checked baggage, it is important to contact Delta by telephone to reserve tickets for yourself and your pets as far in advance as possible after you have confirmed your travel plans. Delta and its airline partners each have their own policies regarding how many pets may be carried in cabin and in cargo and size restrictions on pet carriers that can travel in cargo. If a pet has to transfer from a Delta flight to one of its partner Connection Carriers, the Delta flight must be confirmed at least 48 hours before the scheduled departure time of the Connection Carrier flight. Two pets of the same size and species (generally puppies, kittens or toy dogs) may be allowed in one pet carrier, provided they are able to comfortably fit in one carrier and each weigh less than 20 pounds. If they meet these criteria, they will be charged as only one pet.
